Instapundit passes along that Al-Qaeda chatter is a pre-9/11 levels.

On hearing the news, an outraged Paul Wellstone called for immediate censure of any parties to the violation of that organization's expectation of privacy.

Scott Adams is writing about how we decide right and wrong.

Mr. Adams is one of the snappiest commentators out there. He's also one of the silliest. In an earlier age when folks like Swift were writing, people had trouble sorting out the silly stuff from the serious commentary and, worse, accepting that they didn't really need to get to worried about what some goofy writer thought unless it struck to close to home.

They still don't.

Enjoy the post, which puts a whole new spin on our intellectual forefathers. Then have a look at the comments, gape in wonder at the passion and intensity people put into arguing Mr. Adams' proposal - so goofy that we use it all the time! - and sigh as you remember his catch-phrase conclusion to such arguments: "And then he voted."

Yikes!

And these are the people who ready the funny pages? The folks still reading the NYT Op-Ed must be really humorless.

Love my Saturn...

from Saturn of Capitol Expressway of South San Jose, in case you're wondering.

At the end of February, I spent $2,000 having the valve body and other transmission components replaced, after it stopped shifting out of first gear.

The first week of March, it stopped shifting out of first gear again. Saturn said the replacement valve body was defective and said they would replace it for free.

Two hours we picked up the car, it died at a busy intersection.

Saturn has been very nice about loaning us a car while figuring out what was wrong, to give credit where credit is due.

Today, they called and said there were metal shavings messing up actuators and keeping transmission fluid from flowing properly. Their recommendation: It needs a new transmission. This was not their recommendation when we asked a month ago if it was worth fixing. This was not their recommendation even though installing a complete rebuilt transmission apparently costs the same thing as the repair work we had done. That repair work would have been warranteed for a year. Saturn apparently does not, however, cover the costs associated with their fixing the wrong thing.

Cost of transmission repairs so far: around $2,000.

The service representative's judgment of the car he released to us on Friday, March 10 at 5 p.m.:

It's unsafe to drive.

They haven't yet volunteered to replace the transmission free, nor even deduct the money we spent having the car fixed so well that it is unsafe to drive.

Love that Saturn service.

Just to be fair, we will willingly print a reply from Saturn of Capitol Expressway, as well as updating on how things work out.

Here's the first update.
