Everybody else seems to be bailing on Miers. The contrarian in me wants to back her in response, but that would require having some strong argument to offer in her favor, however spurious that argument was.

Regular readers (both of you) will note that I've had little to say on the Miers matter. Given my brilliant record on Roberts (I still haven't decided what I think of him), I'm not the best Court watcher out there.

Still, this site more than any should know a Turkey when it sees one.

The White House, sadly, doesn't seem to have made the case for its nominee. Had they said, "She's great for..." and stuck to it, I might be able to tag along. But it seems like every time an argument in her favor is shot down, instead of responding, "No, really, we're serious and here's why..." the White House says, "Okay, how about this then?"

Enough. Harriet Miers seems eminently qualified to come speak to the local Chamber of Commerce. Even in a really, really big city. She's a great lady and a sweet lady and all that, or so it seems. But a Supreme Court Justice? Only in the sort of country that could buy Geena Davis as the President.

Question:

When The New York Times' top people are running around saying they don't know what their reporters are up to but are looking into it... how much do you suppose they really know about what's going on in, say, Iraq?

And if Bill Keller isn't sure he can trust his reporters, should we?

It's a bad day for the TurkeyBlogger when he finds himself having more respect for John McCain, Chuck Hagel and Russ Feingold than for Mitch McConnell (never did respect Bill Frist).

Supporting efforts to divert Katrina funds from pork to NO rebuilding:

Now that's constituent service...

The other day, I wrote Congressman Mike Honda, asking what our district could give up to help cover the costs of Katrina clean-up. His response is posted here. It shows, of course, that Mike Honda and his staff saw the word Katrina and sent me a form letter about George W. Bush going to Louisiana and renting a plane to seed some clouds so he could flood the Blacks out of New Orleans in pursuit of his racist goal to make the nation safe only for white family friends (and Secretary of State Rice, though that wasn't mentioned). I'm summarizing, of course. The letter wasn't nearly that measured in its tone.

I thought that the worst of my suffering for trying to contact the mighty Mike Honda with an issue less than dear to his liberal heart would be a curt reminder that neither he nor his staff actually cared what constituents thought unless it helped them overthrow the evil enemy, Bush.

Then I got a second e-mail. For half a second, I thought it might be a more detailed or personal response. Silly me! Now I'm on his legislative update list. I don't know that I failed to uncheck any boxes, but I certainly didn't take deliberate action to get on his e-mail list. I guess Mike Honda's kind of like those outfits, then, that give you a free bit of crap software to get your marketing info. Except that the software usually does something, if poorly, whereas a letter asking for information resulted in the receipt of none.

So here's a new warning for the PorkBusters out there: Mess with the liberal congressmen and you won't just get dissed. You'll get spammed.

TiCon taking kitties to
"human society"

The TurkeyBlogger has obtained a copy of the CreekSide Kitty memo mentioned yesterday. Having read the memo, we are much reassured that the organization is acting with the best of intentions for the greater good of all.

We believe, in fact, that the whole world should have a chance to see the dedication, the untiring commitment, that the TiCon organization brings to serving its clients, letting nothing, not even the basic rules of grammar and memo construction, deter it from its duties.

Below, a snapshot of how the organization, in the interest of safety, wasted not a second in research or proofreading before announcing its intention to take the nefarious cats to the "human society." Our only fear is where they might actually take the cats, when they fail to locate "human society" in the yellow pages. If you're reading, fellas, it's "Humane Society."

Clicking on this one instance of how TiCon puts actions before mere words, you can see the full text of the memo. We have taken the liberty of underlining badly formed memo elements, poorly constructed non-sentences and other trivialities that highlight the organization's professional commitment to its clients and the general public.
